Biography
Birth name, Gilbert Bani, Stage name A-Q, an indigene of Abia State in South East, Nigeria, born on the 1st of August 1986, the last child of a family of six. A-Q was raised in Surulere, Lagos where he lived for a larger part of his life. He attended Fountain Nursery and Primary School, Kings College Lagos and a graduate of the University of Lagos. This controversial rapper/ songwriter began his attempt at doing music at the tender age of 12 rapping over the songs of other artistes and writing his own lyrics. At 16, he signed his very first record deal with Big Leaf Records. He released his first album titled ‘Listen and Overstand’ in 2005 which was independently sold.
A-Q co-owns Hustle Inc and the ‘God bless the Hustle’ outfit, he has earned props from heavyweights in the game like Don Jazzy and M.I and became the first rapper to appear twice on Jimmy Jatt’s ‘Jump off’ show. A-Q has earned his spot in the hip-hop circle with songs like Distraction, 555, Idols putting him on the list of lyrical heavyweights, his penchant for controversies is well known with his many battles with the likes of former Trybe member Timi, McSkillz, Ill Bliss. In 2015, he released the Son of John 2 Ep on online platforms which was sold for N50 and moved major units, also became the first rapper to put up a rap concert (Son of John concert) later in the year. History will surely never forget the rapper with the 1st and the 17th alphabet.
