Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, better known as Seun Kuti is a Nigerian musician and the youngest son of legendary Afrobeat king Fela Kuti. After expressing his desire to follow in his father’s footsteps as a child, the young Seun was immediately drafted into his father’s band. Seun was only 14 years old when Fela died and he had to assume the role of lead singer of the Egypt 80 band.
Seun Kuti has taken it upon himself to continue with his father’s legacy. His live sets are a mix of both his own material and Fela’s extensive repertoire and he routinely tours the globe, taking Afrobeat to new audiences.
In January 2012, Seun Kuti played an active role in the Occupy Naija protests that brought Nigerians of all classes to the streets after an insensitive removal of petroleum subsidies. He remains an outspoken government critic and social crusader.
