Burna Boy, Vector and Praiz feature on Hennessy artistry 2016 theme song

Hennessy Nigeria may have delayed the release of its official Hennessy artistry theme song since the liquor company unveiled its headliners late last year but it was for a good cause.

The brand debuted the official theme song earlier today as the latest addition to previous editions headlined by Wizkid, 2face, Banky W amongst others. With production credits by afro-EDM smith Sarz, this year’s theme song titled ‘No Be Water’ features Vector, Praiz and Burna Boy.

Though Sarz’ signature electronic fingerprints are littered across the song, he mostly keeps things simple with fast paced soft kicks, electronic trumpets and a distant background house piano synths.

We have to admit however that we were somewhat sceptical of  the fusion of talents involved in the blending of this song. Especially when one considers Burna’s afrobeat grounding and Vector’s hip hop genre definitions, both in contrast to Sarz’ electronic leanings. But somehow they pull it off with sleek chemistry.

Burna Boy sails across two hooks and a dedicated verse with a style reminiscent of his recent Fela imitation as we have heard on Soke and Jealousy. Vector shines with a smooth sing-song rap verse and Praiz closes the song with a stunning vocal delivery of an R&B final verse. The result is a Friday night drive-esque afro-pop number which thematically aligns with the night life theme of the Hennessy artistry campaign it was intended for.
