Guess by now we are all familiar with the news, that Audu Maikori sometime in July this year, stepped down his position as C.E.O, Chocolate City Music (though he remains President of the Chocolate City Group) after 10 years.
He passed the baton to Jude Abaga popularly known as M.I with Panshack Zamani a.k.a Ice Prince serving as Vice Chairman of the label. This change saw the marriage of M.I’s Loopy records and the infusion of a new generation of talents unto the label.
For a long while after this though, the label seemingly lost its focus and the bags of hits that made it rank as one of the leading record labels in the land began to pale. Outside the ‘Indestructible Choc Boi Nation’ project released, which was quite poorly promoted, nothing seemed to be happening. Top entertainment writer and critic Osagz stated this much on the recent edition of his FactsOnly series.
However, the last few weeks has seen a lot of change in that area though as the label seemed to have been touched by some Prophet T.B Joshua anointing and have pushed out a lot of new music. In less than one month, we have had new materials like, Jaga Love by Jesse Jagz, Kaboo by Koker, Machinery by Dice Alies, Unlooking by Milli and yesterday’s release of Ehen by Pryse, Awon Temi by Loose Kaynon, though some are quick to argue that most of the songs have been recorded long ago.
It seems the Choc Nation 2.0 train has officially taken off as we expect an album filled 2016.
