Simply put, the bigger your fan base, the bigger your appeal, the bigger your spread and the bigger your bank account. So artistes device means to be in the good books of their fans and to win new converts at all times.

Internationally, naming your fan base is like a norm especially for the A-list artists.

This makes them more welcomed into your inner circle, hence you see the likes of pop singer Justin Bieber who got Beliebers, Taylor Swift has a thousand Swifties who chant her name and worship her every song while Ed Sheeran also has The Sheereenators.

In the same vein Nigerian artistes, though still slow at it are not getting left out of this trend and here are five of those with a named fanbase.

  1. D’banjKokolettes: This is a name that has stuck with the Koko master since the release of his debut hit single, ‘Tongolo’, it’s a name given largely to the female unmarried section of his fan base while the older ones are aptly called ‘Mamalettes’.
  2. Korede BelloBellovers: Mavin’s golden boy Korede Bello dropped this name on his hit single ‘Godwin’ and it has spread especially amongst teenage females as they all seek to become a Bellover.
  3. Reekado BanksReek Addicts: Reekado Banks has a growing list of Reek Addicts following in the steps of his label mate, Korede Bello.
  4. Tiwa SavageTeamTiwaSavage: This is a name that is largely active on social media and even has a handle used by her fans to spread her music and follow up on their favorite star.
  5. 2face2facemaniacs: perhaps the very first Nigerian fan handle on twitter, 2facemaniacsis home to anybody who loves the living legend as it promotes his every event, solicits for votes during awards and shares tickets and souvenirs amongst verified fans and followers of the handle.
