nmva2The Nigerian Music Video Awards, NMVA which was originally scheduled to hold today, Thursday December 17, has been postponed.

The awards which is the brain child of former TV host and Live Beats presenter Cally Ikpe and is widely regarded as one of the most respected and consistent award ceremony in Nigeria since its inception, has been shifted with a new date set to be announced in the coming weeks.

The award which is in its ninth year rewards musical videos and credits the directors, make-up artists and all those involved in putting up the perfect picture for our screens, it took the bold step of dumping the conventional weekend dates for award ceremonies in the country during its 8th edition last year and was supposed to continue in that tradition this year. Speaking on the postponement, Mr Cally Ikpe stated ‘Due to circumstances beyond our control, it has become inevitable to postpone by a few weeks the 9th edition of the annual Nigerian Music Video Awards earlier fixed for December 17th 2015. A new date will be communicated shortly.’

We know the event has suffered from sponsorship and other technical hitches in recent times but calling off an award on the eve of the ceremony doesn’t really put the award in a good light, here is hoping the organizers are able to get this sorted as quickly and give us all an event to remember.
