We haven’t been able to keep up with Zambian producer, PatrickxxLee lately.
Since finishing his work on Milli’s widely appraised Don’t Ask Me What Happened EP earlier this year, he’s been shuffling between hotel stints and long tiresome flights across the world. But in between getting his passport tattooed and partying in Ibiza, he took time off yesterday to share a 6 track extended play featuring new material he recorded while backpacking through Europe and some others he’d produced in the motherland some months earlier.
DISCO UTOPIA, the anachronic name of the EP is a vague reference to the death of disco in a world where electronic sounds have taken over the sound wave. PatricKxxLee is back on his signature string set of cinematic, complex and sometimes fawn-y style of production. The rapper never runs out of out stories, so don’t be surprised to find yourself listening to a song about a bitter break-up right after a track about wild late nights in South Africa.
We have kept a close eye on Patrick since he landed in Lagos in May of this year, you’re a couple weeks late, but it’s high time to start doing some following for yourself. Just listen to Disco Utopia below if you still need convincing.
