Phone sex, going broke, and 3 other things we learnt about Falz on NdaniTV’s The Juice

NdaniTV’s web series, The Juice is back for a third season. The web series premiered its first episode of the season on YouTube today with rapper and actor Falz as guest star and Shola Dorcas Fapson as the show’s new host.

Though there were cringe-worthy moments mostly caused by Fapson’s coy childishness, she still had questions prickly enough for us to learn a little bit more about the self-acclaimed bad guy over the 16-minute time frame.

Falz had a crew in secondary school

We all nursed music star dreams at some point while we were growing up and Falz was no different (even though he went ahead to pursue his). As a high school student, Falz was part of a crew known as ‘School Boyz’. “We were young guys trying to have fun, trying to do stuff that you really enjoy doing.” He says. “At that time, we just really enjoyed rapping and performing for people in school”. He didn’t give any further details on why the group disbanded, but that’s alright.

His dad is a big fan of Fela’s music

Speaking on the unanticipated success of his Stories That Touch album, Falz discussed the composition of Workaholic, a preppy Fela-esque call and response format song with an Afrobeat baseline. Falz noted Fela as an inspiration to the song because his dad played a lot of Fela’s music while he was growing up. According to him, this may or may not be connected to his father serving as Fela’s lawyer at some point during the Abami Eda’s lifetime.

His relationship with Simi is strictly based on music

The chemistry between Falz and Simi is so great, it may send sparks flying on the other side of the planet so logically everyone expects them to be together. But according to Falz, they’re just great friends who make music together. Even when Fapson prodded him some more about the possibility of a love triangle he simply replies “I know that she has a boyfriend, but it’s not me.”

He may have tried phone sex and thinks everyone has too

Host, Dorcas Fapson was quick to bring up the issue of phone sex, which Falz loosely mentioned on Time Difference, a song off his Stories that Touch album,  She coyly asked him if he has tried phone sex before in relation to the long distance relationship theme of the song, to which he replied: “Its something that everybody does.” Dorcas, clearly not satisfied with the answer he gave, asked him again for clarity. He lumbers with his words for a while then responds “The same way that you (Dorcas) do it, I do it”

His only BFF may be Funke Akindele

At the close of the interview, a question is thrown at Falz prompting him to mention one person he could call for help if he went broke in a near future. At first, the rapper was quick to dismiss the question as a no-brainer, adding that there is probably no one he could call for help. However after a few minutes of silence, he casually mentions Jenifa’s Dairy co-star, Funke Akindele, describing her as the “realest” person he has probably ever met in the entertainment industry.
