WEDNESDAY WOMAN CRUSH: EVA ALORDIAH

eva4The last Wednesday Woman Crush for 2015 is dedicated to the awesomely talented Eva Alordiah.

Elohor Eva Alordiah better known as Eva Alordiah or simply Eva, is a Nigerian rapper, entertainer, make- up artist, fashion designer and entrepreneur. Eva who hails from Delta State grew up singing in the church choir but after listening to Eminem’s ‘Cleaning out my Closet’, she got inspired into trying her hands out at rapping instead and today is regarded as one of the top rappers in the land.

I remember the very first time I actually heard Eva rap, it was her freestyle over Lil Wayne’s ‘A Milli’ instrumental, which she titled ‘I dey play’, the skill she showed made me wonder who this female emcee was, in a country where there was a dearth of femcees.

Eva has never been one limited to just one art though, at age 10, she dreamt of being a writer and actually used to write short stories, at 16, she was already doing business, auditioning for acting and modelling roles. Then she picked up photography and still found time to complete her degree in Computer Science from Bowen University.

Music wise, she has been in the game professionally since 2009 working with the likes of Tha Suspekt, she has since gone on to feature on many other songs like ‘Owo ati Swagger’, ‘I no Send you’, including releasing three projects of hers, The Pre GIGO EP, The GIGO EP which was released in 2011 and her self-titled The EVA EP which was released in 2014. Eva has also won some awards since she began her career like ‘Most Promising Act to Watch’ at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards 2012, ‘Female Rap Artist’, Eloy Awards 2011.

Eva who is also the owner of MakeUpByOrsela, a makeup outfit which sees her doing a lot of creatively scary looking make-up, is regarded as one of the few from a dying breed of female rappers as over the years, the music industry has seemed a bit too unfriendly a terrain for femcees and the few who have dared like B.O.U.Q.U.I, Sasha, Kel, Blaise have all had to quit the game and focus on other ventures. With Eva still dropping materials though, all hope is not lost and hip-hop lovers expect her to finally release her debut studio album already titled ‘1960’ come 2016.
