Fashion designer and music recording artiste Sunday Osakuni, popularly known as Ekwe Original Stereoman, who was a cultural dancer as a child and started his music at the early age of 17, rose to fame after the success of his smash hit single “Sample Ekwe”, but he has been missing from the mainstream music industry for a while now.
At a time when local street-pop and the galala dance dominated the music scene, Stereoman Ekwe held sway on the streets, at every garage, joint or locale who celebrated true ghetto culture. Children and even adults would mimic dance patterns while the song caused a raucous around town. He was practically the king of the Ghetto then.
The Warri bred artiste was involved in a messy murder scandal involving his ex-girlfriend and baby mama, some 4 years ago and it took the intervention of influential lawyers like Festus Keyamo to deliver him from the clutches of the girl’s family who insisted that he was responsible for her death.
After being released from detention, he said he would release more single and an album, but that was the last we heard of him.
Is he cooking up something? Or has he taken a backseat so the younger artistes can do their thing?
Only the Stereoman can tell us…EKWE!
