It’s a family affair!

k-switch-and-dbanjJust like every venture that is appealing, profitable and attracts popularity, it is not surprising to find members of the same family becoming a re-occurring theme in the Nigerian music scene, some in form of siblings, others in form of parent and child, here are some of the prominent ones in our industry;

Peter and Paul Okoye: The Okoye twins unarguably ranks as the only brothers on this list that shares similar amount of fame and success, there is no separating the twins who have taken Africa by storm and have made themselves a household name.

Salawa Abeni and Big Sheff: Legendary Waka Queen and her Rick Ross look-alike son recently worked together on his ‘Gentle Lady’ single, which is a remix of the original song performed by QSA back in the days.

Jesse and MI Abaga: These J town emcees have built their brand and are regarded as some of the biggest names in the game. MI has grown from that short black boy to being Choc City boss whilst brother Jesse has a strong fan base with his eclectic mix of Reggae and hip-hop sound.

Dbanj and K-Switch: The Oyebanjo family has two of their sons doing fairly well in the Industry, while Dapo is as A-list as they come, Kehinde Oyebanjo better known as K-Switch has made a name for himself in his own way.

Sound Sultan and Baba Dee: Dare and Lanre Fasasi popularly known as Baba Dee and Sound Sultan have stamped their names in the history books of our music industry. Right from the early 2000s when they released songs like Jagbajantis, Sodi E and the likes. The duo who owns the record label Naija Ninjas also owns a stake in a local basketball team whilst Baba Dee has branched into Cinematography.

TWIN-X: Who remembers the Akintoye twins? Taiwo and Kenny Akintoye better known as Twin-X have been in the industry pretty long enjoying mainstream success under the management of former Maintain boss, Big Bamo. They burst into the limelight with their hit single ‘Mami Mi’ which was followed up with ‘Miliki’. The twins have tried to make a comeback severally but are yet to attain that height they once achieved in the game.
