Internet searches are amazing don’t you think? Yes, we know we don’t get medals for stating the obvious. But sometimes you run into something so profound on the Internet you start to wonder what you have been doing on the webosphere all these years.
This is why running into Ghanaian freshman Cina Soul was a lot more than just finding another singer.
Save for a SoundCloud page with a couple of singles and brilliant alternate covers of already successful hits, there’s not much about Cina Soul on the Internet. But like we have seen with Nigerian music, Cina Soul appears to be one of the first of a new generation of Ghanaian artistes.
A brief genre description lists Cina Soul as a soul singer and judging by her single Julor, featuring M.anifest, her music is a fusion of early 2000s neo-soul meets the sensuality of Sade Adu’s Diamond Life. Put these two qualities inside a mixed bowl pot of a talented girl with exposure to the African soundscape and what you get is Cina Soul.
We will be following the exploits of this songbird in the coming months. But today we’re bringing her to your attention because she featured on ‘Ground-Up Chale’, a web series recorded in Ghana featuring live recording sessions dedicated to upcoming artistes. Cina Soul was on the show to give a rendition of four afropop smash hits namely: Bankulize and Skin Tight by Mr Eazi, Go Harder by Stonebwoy and In My Bed by Wizkid.
