Xclusive 2face mixBeing a disc jockey in Nigeria is big business, the Deejay business has become so lucrative especially in recent times such that a child can now dream of it as a profession one is not afraid of any backlash from parents or friends.

There is a long list of Deejays in the industry now but few of them have taken it to the next level by becoming artistes themselves, churning out albums even though they don’t produce any of the tracks on it or actually carry out any form of recording.

With DJ Spinall releasing his official debut album titled ‘My Story’ this month, we take a look at fellow Deejays who have gone forward from the turntables to having solo albums or singles to their credit.

  1. DJ Jimmy Jatt: Jimmy is god when it comes to deejays in Nigeria, been in the game running two decades, paved the way for a lot of the new generation cats and has a lot going for him on the business side. Legendary DJ Jimmy Jatt has the Triple J facecap imprint, used to run the Jimmy Jumpoff show on TV which has now been converted into an annual concert and he has two albums to his name, Definition which was groundbreaking and has the classic single Stylee and The Industry album released in 2014 with a galaxy of stars featuring on it.
  2. DJ Xclusive: The Deejay who has worked with EME released his solo effort titled ‘According to X’ in 2015, the 21 track album packed some hit songs like Ibebe, Pangolo and Jeje linking up with the likes of Olamide, Wizkid and Timaya.
  3. DJ Spinall: A.k.a The Cap, Mr. Industry Night recently followed suit with the release of his debut album, ‘My Story’ into the market this November, the Deejay got assistance from heavyweights like Burna Boy, Timaya and Terry G.
  4. DJ Neptune: This is another veteran deejay who has been in the game for many years, the Edo born disc jockey surprisingly doesn’t have an album despite having released singles like 123 (original and remix) which were hits years back, Neptune has a number of mixtapes to his name and announced earlier this year following the release of his song ‘So Nice’ featuring Davido that he is working on his debut album which we still hope get released before the end of the year.
  5. DJ Shabsy: former Soundcity jockey and G-Worldwide Entertainment new signing Dj Shabsy has been buzzing quite a while since his return from the UK, with his video mixes and compilation tapes, he recently released a new single ‘Raba’ which is a major hit as he builds up to his album on his new label.

This is quite good, I see a lot of our Deejays going the DJ Khaled and DJ Premier route, shocked to see Neptune doesn’t have an album sha.
