Stella Damasus is releasing an album this month. Should we care?

Between stirring up drama on her radio show, facing accusations of stealing Doris Simeon’s ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan and publicly dragging Ghanaian filmmaker Leila Djansi for insulting Nollywood, actress and singer Stella Damasus has been up to a lot of things lately. The latest addition to that long list of things is a gospel collective, The Alternative set for an April 24th release date.

Using her Instagram account to announce the release of the album, Stella’s album art caption read “Finally!!#TheAlternativeAlbum will be released on #April24 which is also My Birthday! Wow! I’m excited about this and I know this album will change your life. Thanks for all the love and support so far. Let’s do this people. I’ve got the best team in the world & I can’t wait for you guys to hear what we’ve done with this one”

Should we care about this?

Well listening to music about God never hurt anybody, but the question of how vocally talented Stella Damasus is, is another discussion entirely. She’s not a bad singer, but the gospel music genre needs more than just being “okay”. But Stella won’t be the first of her kind to attempt to use their influence from a related career to force their music down our throats.

From the way we see things, Stella is continuing along the path of random things she has been fingering around with in a bid to retain relevance in the entertainment industry. And a gospel album is a sure bet way to go since Nigerians love God so much. We’re not saying you should not cop Stella’s album when it hits digital online stores later this month, but we have heard her prior singles, The Man, and Ja Gi Mma and while they are not bad songs, we’re not very impressed. Not for her chosen genre, No.
