In the words of Reggae Dance-hall superstar Timaya, “Collabo follow for promo”, which literally means that as an artiste collaborating with others is part of the business. Whether it is for free or there is an appearance fee involved.
We will now be looking at the recent top 6 collabo kings.
And they are:
Olamide: The YBNL boss earlier this year announced that he was open to collabo from any artiste be it an established one or upcoming one and was true to his word with different collabos this year. He is the Collabo king of the country at the moment. His works includes Davido’s “The Money” and Masterkraft’s “Indomie”
Don Jazzy: If you asked anybody 6 years ago, if Don jazzy will feature on a song by an artiste not signed under his label, he/she will answer with a big No. Fast-Forward a few years later, he even features on songs he didn’t produce. His works includes Olamide’s “Skelemba” and Iyanya’s “Gift”
Phyno: The versatile artiste, is usually featured because he has a unique style and is drops hot punch lines and s among the list of artistes that do not charge for a feature his works include Flavour’s “Wiser” and Falz’s “Karashika”
Lil’ Kesh: The YBNL Rookie, who has been a wonderful revelation since his discovery 2 years ago is one hot property in the collabo market too, with HKN acts B-Red and Danagog featuring him in recent times. His works includes Phyno and Olamide’s “Ladi” and Iyanya’s “Okamfo”
Wizkid: He is perhaps the only one on the list who charges for a collabo as we discovered with his beef with Saeon after she featured him in her “Boogie Down” hit song which he claimed became a hit because he was featured in it. His works includes Praiz’s “sisi” and Runtown’s “Bend Down Pause”
Davido: The only one with a croaky voice in this list. Even with that kind of voice, Davido changes every track he touches to Gold. Lil Kesh can attest to that fact. His works include Runtown’s “Gallardo” and MC Galaxy’s “Nek Uneo”
